A cyclist was taken to hospital after being assaulted by two men at a shopping mall in Irvine.

Police were called to the Rivergate at around 4.15pm on Saturday after receiving reports of an assault.

Emergency services took a 30-year-old man to Crosshouse Hospital.

His current condition is unknown.

Police have now launched an appeal for witnesses and have released information on the two suspects.

The first man is described as white and in his early 20’s and was wearing black trousers, a black t-shirt and a dark-coloured baseball cap at the time of the attack.

The second man is described as white, in his early 20’s with black hair and was wearing black trousers and a grey zipped top.

Detective constable Stevie Williams said: “Our investigation into this incident is continuing and officers have been carrying out enquiries and gathering CCTV footage.

“Rivergate was busy on Saturday afternoon when this incident happened and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact us.”

Information can be passed to 101 with reference number 2304 of 26 November. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
