A cyclist is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash involving a bus in East Renfrewshire.

Police were called to reports of a crash involving a bike rider and a bus in Newton Mearns on the A77 at the junction with Ayr Road at around 12.35pm on Wednesday, March 6.

A 63-year-old man, the cyclist, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital with medical staff describing his condition as “critical.”

An ambulance, trauma team and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.

The road was closed for around six hours before being reopened.

Sergeant Paul Mellis said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the crash to come forward.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in the area and who may have dash-cam footage to contact us.”
