A cyclist who was hit by a lorry in East Dunbartonshire at rush hour on Tuesday morning has died.

Police confirmed on Wednesday morning that a 56-year-old female cyclist had been pronounced dead at the scene following the incident on March 19 in Bearsden.

Emergency services were called to the crash which involved the cyclist and an HGV on Manse Road in the town, just after the junction with Drymen Road.

The male driver of the HGV was not injured.

The road was closed to allow for crash investigations to take place and reopened around 1.30pm.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and officers are now appealing for information.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “My thoughts are with the families and friends of the deceased at this difficult time.

“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the crash and witnessed what took place, or has any dashcam footage which could assist, to please get in touch with officers.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 0590 of March 19.
