A cyclist is fighting for his life after falling off of his bicycle on a road in Arran.

The 71-year-old man was cycling along the A841 at Sannox Bridge on Shore Road when he appears to have lost control and fell on to the carriageway.

Emergency services attended and he was taken by air ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital in Ayrshire for treatment.

Medical staff have described his condition as critical.

Police are now appealing for information to the incident that took place at around 2.55pm on Thursday.

Sergeant Craig Beaver from the divisional road policing unit based at Irvine said:  “The road was relatively busy at the time of the incident, with other cyclists and motorists, and is important we speak to anyone who may have information to help us establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing for any witness to get in touch and would also urge motorists with dash-cams, who were travelling on the A841 at the time, to please check their footage in case they have captured anything of relevance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101.”
