Campaigners have gathered in Glasgow’s George Square to honour the memory of Ukrainian children who have been killed in the war.
The Mothers’ March took place at 12pm on Saturday, and was also due to take place in a number of central squares in cities all around the globe.
Gathering in George Square, those in attendance showed their support towards Ukrainian children who have been victims of Russia’s continued invasion of the country.
Ukrainian Alyona Chub, who has lived in Scotland for eight years, took part in the demonstration as she prepares for her two-year-old nephew to come live with her from Bucha.
She told STV News: “From the official information, we know that half of the population of children have already left Ukraine.
“That’s devastating, it’s our future, the future of Ukrainians, the future of Ukraine and these people had to flee, some of them to save their lives. Hundreds of thousands of people have left Ukraine and are in filtration camps. My heart is broken.
“These are innocent people, they don’t care about politics, or the economy, they just want to have a childhood and they’re scared for life. Already scared for life.”
In a post shared on social media, the event organisers called on Scots to “honour the memory of murdered children”.
Ukrainian people who have fled the war torn country were also encouraged to make their “voices heard”.
The post said: “Come to Glasgow’s George Square at 12:00pm on June 4 to honour the memory of the murdered children, to support their families and those who continue to suffer from Russian aggression.
“Please show your support. To all those Ukrainian women who have fled the war and come to Glasgow, make your voices heard.
“Do not remain silent.”
The United Nations estimates that nearly six million people have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded, with a further six-and-a-half million displaced within the country.
More than 8000 people in Scotland expressed an interest in welcoming Ukrainian refugees to their homes, according to official figures.
