'Critical' teenager fighting for life in hospital after being struck by car

A teenager is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a car on a footpath in Glasgow.

The incident took place on Maryhill Road near to Dalsholm Road at around 7.40pm on Saturday.

The 19-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a black Mercedes E220 car travelling westbound.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance where medical staff have described his condition as critical.

The 41-year-old male driver of the car and his three passengers were not injured.

Police were also in attendance and investigating officers are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 7.40pm on Saturday, October 12, a 19-year-old pedestrian sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a Mercedes E220 motor vehicle on Maryhill Road near to Dalsholm Road, Glasgow.

“He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

“The driver of the car and his passengers were not injured. Enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing.”

The force are now appealing for witnesses and have asked anyone who is in the area at the time to contact them.

They are also asking for any dashcam footage.

Constable Scott MacKenzie, Road Policing Unit, Greater Glasgow Division, is investigating the cause of the crash and is appealing for information. He said:

“This can be quite a busy junction and so we would ask anyone who was in the area, who has not yet spoken to officers but believes they may have information that could help our enquiry, to contact us.

“We would also be interested in any dashcam footage from the road at the time.

“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote incident number 3162 of Saturday, 12 October 2024 when calling.”

The road was closed northbound for approximately seven and a half hours, opening at 3.35am on Sunday.
