A section of Cowcaddens Road will be closed for three weeks from Monday to allow completion of one of the city’s Avenues projects.
The road will shut between Port Dundas Road and North Hanover Street from April 20 to May 12.
Glasgow City Council has said the closure is needed to finish carriageway resurfacing, drainage and Scottish Power works.
LDRSThe Avenues projects are a series of public realm improvements schemes. At Cowcaddens Road, the plan includes widened pavements, segregated cycle lanes, a new pedestrian junction, benches and tree planting.
A council spokesman said this last section of works will mean the Cowcaddens Road and Dobbie’s Loan Avenues project will finish on schedule by mid-May.
Meanwhile, Cathedral Street has been closed since April 1 due to a collapsed sewer. Scottish Water has said repairs are expected to take up to three months.
LDRSDiversion routes are in place and council officials are updating partners, including SPT, Buchanan Bus Station, Glasgow Caledonian University and taxi companies, on these works.
Progress on fixing the egg brick sewer has been “significantly slower than expected” due to “heavy clay soil and presence of numerous cables and pipes”, a Scottish Water spokesman previously said.
A “significant amount” of concrete was also found, which needs to be “carefully broken out and removed as there may be other power cables or other utilities encased inside”.
Works on the north side of George Square are also expected to take an extra five weeks after an uncharted void was discovered. The hole has to be dealt with before work to lay granite setts can take place.
The council spokesman said this won’t affect the end of August completion date for the Square.
