Local authorities across Scotland have suspended parking charges to help support key workers using their cars.
Glasgow City Council is among those to adopt the changes, which are aimed at reducing reliance on public transport at a time when buses and trains are operating a reduced service.
Elaine Ballantyne, SNP councillor for Baillieston, said: “From Monday 23rd March, GCC will suspend on-street car parking charges following current government advice to avoid, when possible, use of public transport.”
Edinburgh City Council has also moved to implement new parking measures.
Residents in the capital will be given dispensation to park in pay and display spaces within their permit zones to “make it as easy as possible to park near their homes while working from home or self-isolating”.
The decisions come as the Scottish Government urges social distancing as part of its strategy to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.
