Officials are trying to work out ways to host the event without “significant cost”.
The Bonfire night celebration in the east end park has not taken place since 2019 after it was cancelled due to Covid in 2020.
A meeting heard Glasgow Life is in talks with a partner about a potential new event following a question from Councillor Donna McGill about the situation.
A total of £100,000 has been reserved from the Common Good Fund during 2025 to 2026 for the delivery of major civic events including an annual civic fireworks display according to a council report.
A council official told Wednesday’s finance and audit scrutiny committee: “We are doing some work at the moment with Glasgow Life to see what could be delivered in partnership with a third party. They are doing some market testing at the moment.”
He said another meeting is taking place this week and an update will be brought back to committee.
He added that the council is “looking at ways to provide something, which doesn’t have such a significant cost to the council.
“It is work in progress.”
The officer was responding to a query from Councillor McGill about what the scope of any display might be.
The move towards an annual fireworks event came after Scottish Greens politicians called for the delivery of a public display last year.
Councillor Jon Molyneux lodged an amendment at a meeting asking officers “to explore options to ring fence around £100,000 to support delivery of a public display”.
The council is rolling out firework control zones around the city, which ban people from setting off fireworks on private or public land – including gardens – during a period in November.
It is hoped the move will boost safety, cut disturbances and shield vulnerable residents and animals from loud noises.
