A convicted murderer threatened to harm two prison officers from his cell.

Robert Paterson, 46, made the chilling remarks to the two men at HMP Low Moss, East Dunbartonshire.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that one of the men and a colleague believed that Paterson had a court date on January 16, 2025.

They attended his cell that day and were met by Paterson who was “aggressive, raising his voice and swearing.”

Jurors were told that Paterson became violent in an attempt to remove him from his cell.

This included putting his finger in the face of one of the officers and an attempt to headbutt him.

Paterson continued to threaten the man as he was taken into a custody van.

There were claims that Paterson made efforts to punch him as this took place.

The court heard Paterson told the officer that he “won’t make it home tonight”, “get done by the end of the day” and to “watch himself” in the car park.

Paterson was convicted of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner to the officer.

However, a separate charge of assault was found to be not guilty.

Jurors heard that Paterson also got into an argument on January 18, 2025 with another prison officer regarding hot water.

Paterson said: “You are bamming me up you p****, you better get me hot water.”

The trial was told that Paterson was also violent towards this man, but this again was found not guilty by the jury.

Allegations included attempting to strike the prison guard and struggle violently with him.

Jurors heard that Paterson mentioned the area in which the officer lived.

Paterson said: “I will get your address by the time you are finished and you better be careful.”

In his closing speech to the jury, the fiscal depute said: “These were disgusting comments made to a man doing his job.”

Paterson was found guilty of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards the officer.

Paterson received a life sentence after he shot a man in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, in 2008.

Four years later, Paterson was given a further three years after a foiled escape attempt.

He was then jailed for ten-and-a-half years in July 2025 after ordering a revenge gun attack on a prison officer at HMP Edinburgh.

No time was added by Sheriff Joan Kerr to his current jail term following his latest convictions.

He received a concurrent sentence of two years.

The sheriff said: “I directed the jury that as you were clearly in prison it should play no part in their consideration.

“Now you are convicted, in my view it is extremely relevant that this occurred when serving in prison.

“Any sort of disorder can have a serious impact in that type of setting.

“I view your behaviour to have a serious aggravation on the offences.

“This offence will affect your ability to obtain parole in any event so I see no merit in adding to your sentence.”
