Google MapsA convicted killer had to be shot with a Taser by police after violently attacking his partner.
Paul Cusack had turned on the woman during a row about how he had previously cheated on her.
Officers arrived at the flat in Govan in Glasgow and could hear the 45-year-old yelling: “I am going to murder you.”
Cusack went on to swing a knife at a constable as he tried to get into the property on March 17, 2023.
He was eventually brought under control, and the incident led to him appearing in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow.
Cusack admitted assaulting and abducting the woman to her injury and danger of her life.
He further pleaded guilty to assaulting PC Brian Kelly by repeatedly attempting to strike him on the body with a knife.
Cusack had initially faced attempted murder allegations in connection with both attacks, but prosecutors accepted the reduced charges.
It emerged Cusack was previously jailed at the same court in 2002 for the culpable homicide of a man.
He will be sentenced for these latest crimes next month.
The hearing was told how the couple had been in an on-off relationship for several years.
They had been at a local supermarket before an argument broke out when they returned to the flat.
Cusack grabbed the woman by the throat, choking her. She was also hit in the eye.
The victim was able to dial 999 – Cusack also spoke to the operator at one stage.
Police turned up and could hear a female screaming inside.
Cusack yelled at her: “If you let them in, I will take you hostage and do you in.”
The victim then shouted: “Help me, help me.”
As she pleaded she had not done anything, Cusack threatened to “murder” her.
He partially opened the door to PC Kelly, who wanted in and demanded Cusack drop a lockback knife he was clutching.
Prosecutor Dale Hughes said Cusack instead made “slashing motions” towards the officer, who had to dodge being struck.
The Taser eventually had to be deployed which finally brought him under control.
The victim appeared to be slipping in and out of consciousness.
She suffered minor injuries following her ordeal.
Judge John McCormick remanded Cusack in custody and deferred sentencing for reports until next month.
