A convicted killer who bit a police officer has been tagged for three months.

Kayleigh Murray, 35, pounced on the constable in Dennistoun on July 31.

The attack took place 16 years after Murray ended the life of Paul Woods, then 29, with a single punch.

She attacked the young dad who tried to retrieve alcohol from a friend of Murray’s who had stolen it.

He died in hospital the next day from bleeding on the brain after hitting his head on the pavement.

Murray was initially sentenced to six years after pleading guilty to culpable homicide, but it was reduced to four-and-a-half years following a successful appeal.

Murray pleaded guilty last month at Glasgow Sheriff Court to her latest offences of assaulting the officer to her injury and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

Murray appeared back in the dock from custody to be sentenced before Sheriff Louise Arrol KC.

The sheriff ordered that Murray be kept indoors between 7pm and 7am during a three-month period. She was also put under supervision for three years.

Sheriff Arrol said: “You are a high risk to yourself and others.

“I want to monitor you, and if you fail in this at any point, then I will send you to prison. I have no alternative.”

The court previously heard that officers came across an intoxicated Murray on the floor of a block of flats.

She refused to cooperate with officers and became aggressive towards them.

Murray said: “F*** off beast” and “f***ing cow.”

Prosecutor Gemma Barclay said: “Officers lifted her to her feet.

“Murray shouted and swore and kicked [the victim] to the legs.”

She was told that she was under arrest and continued to kick out and scream before being put in a cell van.

Murray continued to be aggressive towards the officer.

Miss Barclay added: “Officers released her from handcuffs to remove a bag from her shoulder.

“On re-applying handcuffs, Murray bit the officer on the arm.”

The officer later attended hospital and was given a hepatitis vaccination and antibiotics.

Bob McDowall, defending, told the court that his client does not have a disease.

The lawyer added: “My client had no business being in the area, and she has limited recollection.

“She reacted in a completely unacceptable way.”
