A popular walking trail in Loch Lomond has been closed to the public due to severe damage from Storm Eowyn.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority are urging visitors to avoid Conic Hill due to the “significant damage.”

Public access to the route has been closed due to the large number of fallen and damaged trees, which has made the path unsafe.

It comes after Scotland was battered by life-threatening hurricane-force winds during Storm Eowyn on Friday.

The storm brought a rare red weather warning from the Met Office and caused major disruption across the country.

A spokesperson for Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority spokesperson said: “Following significant damage caused by Storm Eowyn, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority is urging visitors to avoid Conic Hill, which is currently closed to public access.

“Fencing and signage have been put in place to inform visitors of the closure and provide guidance. We strongly advise the public to adhere to this guidance and avoid the site for their own safety.”

They added that partners at Forestry and Land Scotland are assessing the damage and carrying out repairs.

“Our teams are working as quickly as possible to reopen the site once it is safe to do so.

“Before setting off, we advise visitors to check the latest updates from the Park Authority and Forestry and Land Scotland to plan their journey accordingly.”
