A community-owned cinema on Argyll and Bute has announced it is due to close citing “unforeseen circumstances.“
Oban Phoenix cinema owners announced the site would be closed “until further notice” on Wednesday with film goers facing journeys to Fort William or Glasgow to see the latest movies.
The cinema, built in the 1950s, was closed previously in 2010 but after funds were raised it reopened a few years later as a community-owned business and local charity.
The picture house was previously supported by Dame Judi Dench, who helped to raise funds after it closed previously.
A statement from the cinema’s Board of Trustees on Wednesday said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Oban Phoenix Cinema will be temporarily closed until further notice.
“Any customers who booked tickets online in advance have now been issued with a refund.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
