A community has been left devastated after a “much-loved” mum died when she was struck by a car while crossing a road with her dog in Port Glasgow.
Emergency services were called to the A8 on Greenock Road around 7.05am on Wednesday.
Amy Gray, from Port Glasgow, and her dog Reggie were struck by a Land Rover Sport as they crossed the eastbound carriageway of the road.
Emergency services attended but both the 42-year-old and the dog died at the scene. Their family is aware.
New Parish Playgroup, based in the town, paid tribute to the “much-loved” mum and “well-loved” member of the community.
A statement read: “As most of you have probably seen the devastating news of the tragic accident in which Amy and her little dog were killed today. Amy was a well-loved member of our playgroup, a daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, friend, partner, step mum, mummy, and a much-loved member of the community.
“The loss of Amy has sent ripples of sadness and grief through Port Glasgow and beyond today.
“We are sending our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Amy’s children, family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
Port Glasgow New Parish Church added: “The community of Port Glasgow and beyond are shocked and devastated by this morning’s tragic incident on the A8 in Port Glasgow.
“Our thoughts are prayers are with the family and friends of Amy at such a difficult time. May she rest in peace.”
Local gym The Fitness Factory also paid tribute to their member. On Facebook, they wrote: “Everyone loved Amy and she loved the gym and her fitness.
“Amy was one of the fittest and hardest workers at the gym. She was a pleasure to be around. She had the most beautiful personality and always had a kind word and smile for everyone. She always supported other gym members and epitomised our ethos.
“Our deepest and heartfelt condolences go out to her family and young children. We have lost an amazing client but they have lost a devoted partner, beloved mother and adored daughter.
“Rest easy Amy. We will always remember you.”
Following the collision, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Sergeant Patrick McWilliams, Police Scotland Road Policing, said: “We have specialist officers with Mrs Gray’s family at this extremely difficult time.
“I’d ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or who have dashcam footage of the incident, to contact police.”
