A free Commonwealth Games family event taking place in Kelvingrove Park for 11 days has been granted a licence.

A food village, stage for local performances and sports activities for people to try will form part of the entertainment.

Running from July 23 to August 2, the public event will also feature a screen for residents to watch the games.

The event will take place at the south end of Kelvingrove Park.

A representative of Glasgow 2026 said it is “important to have a free event for communities in Glasgow”.

He told the licensing and regulatory committee that organisers recognise they are using community facilities and have made sure there is no cost of entry, so the park is “still open and accessible” to locals.

He said ongoing residential engagement would take place for the family friendly event.

Councillors sitting on the licensing and regulatory committee granted the temporary public entertainment licence.

A licensing report said: “The focus is on a creating a family-friendly and community-focused experience. There will be a screen for the public to watch the sport competition, supported by a small stage for local performances, a food village with stalls, alongside sports participation activities.”

It added: “This is being created as a community space and will be open to all local residents to provide free access to experience Glasgow 2026.”
