A social care worker from Clydebank has been struck off after stealing £6,470 from a vulnerable service user.
Margaret Dass was convicted at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on August 20, 2024, of taking the user’s bank card and using it to make withdrawals.
Between January and May 2021, Dass used a number of ATMs in the Dumbarton area to withdraw a total of £5,470.
Dass also pretended to be the service user to employees at a Royal Bank of Scotland branch in the town, and was able to withdraw an additional £1,000.
The Scottish Social Services Council found her fitness to practice was impaired due to the conviction.
In its decision, the council said Dass had “acted dishonestly, carried out criminal behaviour, abused the trust and confidence placed in you as a social service worker”.
Other factors of concern included a lack of insight into the behaviour, that it was a pattern and not an isolated incident, and a failure to cooperate with the investigation.
A striking off order was imposed “to protect service users” and protect the reputation of the social care profession.
Dass was struck off on May 15, 2025.
