A childcare worker from Biggar has been warned for “reckless” speeding while a child was in the back seat.

Deborah Lindsay was under investigation for speeding multiple times during a trip to the Glasgow Science Centre with a colleague and a vulnerable child in the car.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) labelled her action “deliberate and reckless” in a newly released report.

On March 21, 2025, Ms Lindsay broke the speed limit multiple times, clocking 45mph in a 30 zone, 68mph in a 50 zone, 79mph in a 60 zone and finally 92mph in a 70 zone.

This occurred on a single trip between Rigside and the Glasgow Science Centre.

The SSSC panel determined her fitness to practice was impaired due to her actions, citing that workers in the sector must be reliable and dependable.

The report stated: “Your behaviour in this instance is considered to be serious.

You drove at excessive speeds at various intervals over the period of a single journey. You placed yourself, your colleague and a vulnerable young person at unnecessary risk of serious injury and emotional harm.

“It was deliberate and reckless.”

Ms Lindsay made clear to the SSSC that she no longer works within the care sector and that she recognised her actions fell below what is expected of care professionals.

When considering an appropriate punishment, the SSSC were concerned about the unnecessary risk she placed all three occupants of the car in.

However, this was balanced by Ms Lindsay showing insight and regret for her actions.

The SSSC ultimately handed down a 12-month warning to Ms Lindsay.
