A charity has said it is “deeply grateful” for £10,000 donated by Allan McGregor after the former Rangers goalkeeper won a celebrity golf tournament.
The former Scotland international claimed the Luxe Scot Celebrity Pro-Am title at Trump International Golf Links last Wednesday, winning with a 37-point haul.
With his first place finish, the 42-year-old won £10,000 for a charity of his choice – and chose to donate to Kilbryde Hospice, which is based in East Kilbride.
The charity, which provides specialist palliative care to patients with life limiting illnesses, described the gesture as “heartwarming” and said the donation comes at a crucial time.
CEO Gordon McHugh said: “All of us at Kilbryde Hospice are deeply grateful for the incredible generosity of Allan McGregor.
“His decision to donate £10,000 to our hospice after winning the Luxe Scot Celebrity Pro-Am title at Trump International Golf Links is a remarkable gesture that will make a significant difference in the lives of our patients and their families.
“This donation comes at a crucial time, allowing us to continue providing compassionate care and support to those facing life-limiting illnesses.
“It’s heartwarming to see a local sports hero like Allan using his platform to support our cause. His contribution not only helps us financially but also raises awareness of the vital services we provide to the community.
“On behalf of everyone at Kilbryde Hospice, I want to extend our deepest thanks to Allan McGregor for his kindness and generosity. His support means the world to us and to the people we care for.
“We wish Allan all the best in his future endeavours and hope that his example inspires others to give back to their communities in meaningful ways.”
McGregor’s golf heroics come after he hung up his gloves at the end of the 2022/23 season, having made more than 500 appearances for the light blues.
