A Celtic fan who punched three police horses has been jailed for ten months.

Kevin McGuire, 36, also assaulted police officers and has been banned from every football ground in the UK for five years.

A police officer described the riot before a Scottish Cup tie between Celtic and Airdrie last January as “the worst he’d ever seen”.

McGuire, from Cardonald, Glasgow, claimed during his trial that he was an innocent bystander.

During his trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court, he continued to protest his innocence.

But Sheriff John McCormick told McGuire, who was on bail at the time: “You were in fact one of the ringleaders of this mob.”

McGuire was found guilty of “causing unnecessary suffering” to police horses Nerston, Oban and Glasgow, assaulting two police officers and acting in a threatening and abusive manner.
