Cat found in rucksack abandoned on neighbourhood footpath in East Kilbride SSPCA

An appeal has been launched after a cat was found inside a rucksack on a footpath in East Kilbride.

The animal was discovered by a member of the public in the Murray area of the South Lanarkshire town between Galt Place and Murrayhill.

The tomcat, who is not microchipped and had no collar, is now in the care of the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

He was found on Tuesday inside the black Reebok bag and taken care of until he could be passed over to SSPCA staff.

Inspector Dawn Murrie said: “The cat is a black, male, domestic short-haired type.

“He was found on the footpath between Galt Place and Murrayhill inside a black Reebok rucksack.

“The member of the public who found him took him home to keep him safe while they waited for our help.

“Unfortunately, he is not microchipped and was not wearing a collar when he was found.

“He appears to be healthy and has been very friendly and affectionate with our staff.

“If anyone recognises this cat we would ask that they contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
