A casualty had been in cold water for 45 minutes after their catamaran capsized half a mile off the shore of Bute.

Rescuers from the Tighnabruaich RNLI were called out to near Ardlamont Point on Sunday afternoon.

The Lifeboat crew were alerted to the incident by the occupants of a passing yacht who spotted the overturned hulls of the catamaran.

The casualty had been in the water for around 45 minutes and was visibly cold, so was quickly transported to the shore of Bute where Rothesay Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting.

The RNLI crew located the stricken vessel again which was taken under tow to Rothesay CRT at Ettrick Bay on Bute, before being reunited with the owner.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “When venturing onto the water, always take a means to call for help and check the weather before you go. If you see someone in difficulty at sea, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
