A care home resident in East Dunbartonshire has been treated to a “bucket list” motorbike ride to mark her 90th birthday.

Eleanor Russell, a resident at Lillyburn Care Home in Kirkintilloch, told staff she had always wanted to ride in a motorbike sidecar.

The care home, which operates a “bucket list” for all residents, gathered 16 bikers to escort her up the Campsie Hills on Sunday.

The 90-year-old’s family, including great-grandchildren and staff, celebrated her milestone birthday with a picnic on the hill.

She described the moment as a “joy she never expected”.

She said: “Everyone was lovely to me and helped me. It was an experience I’ve never had in my life before.

“I reached 90 and here I am at the top of the Campsies. Who would ever have thought it?

“It was wonderful, thanks very much…I really appreciated that.”
