Car set on fire during string of attempted vehicle thefts

A car was deliberately torched and attempts were made to steal several other vehicles on the same street in Airdrie.

Emergency crews were called out to a car on fire in Maple Quadrant in Craigneuk, around 2.30am on Sunday.

After arriving at the scene officers found there had also been attempts to break in to four nearby vehicles. 

Police are now appealing for witnessess to come forward in a bid to trace the suspect.

Detective Sergeant Lorraine Wilson from Coatbridge CID said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and I am appealing to anyone with information to come forward. 

“If you were in the area of Maple Quadrant in the early hours of Sunday morning, and saw anyone acting suspiciously, please get in touch. 

“I would also urge any motorists with dash-cams who were travelling through at the time to check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance. 

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 0519 of Sunday, October 3, 2021.

“Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
