Drivers in Glasgow faced lengthy delays and had to drive on the hard shoulder after a crash blocked the M77 during rush hour.

Traffic Scotland warned commuters shortly after 8am on Friday that the northbound carriageway of the motorway at Junction 2 Barrhead Interchange at Silverburn was restricted following a collision.

Vehicles were able to pass on the hard shoulder while police were called to the scene.

Images posted by Traffic Scotland showed one car on the road that appeared to have the front of the bonnet smashed.

The carriageway was cleared shortly after at 8.11am however traffic was heavy with drivers facing delays of up to 25 minutes.

It was confirmed at 8.35am that all lanes were running normally.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
