Car crash kills 66-year-old woman as two others injured

A 66-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on Tuesday.

A pensioner has died following a car crash in Lanark that left another two people requiring hospital treatment.

The 66-year-old woman died after a Vauxhall Safira she was travelling in as passenger collided with a Ford Focus on Lanark Road.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident that took place at around 3pm on Tuesday.

A 48-year-old woman who was driving the Vauxhall, and a 24-year-old man who was driving the Ford Focus, have both been taken hospital in Wishaw.

Medical staff describe their current condition as stable.

The deceased’s relatives are aware and a full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Craig McDonald of the Road Policing Unit at Motherwell is appealing for any witnesses. 

He said: “Our investigation into this crash is continuing. 

“I would appeal to any witnesses to this crash, or anyone who was driving on the road at the time who has dash cam footage to contact us.

“Information can be passed to the Road Policing Unit at Motherwell through 101.”
