The M8 is closed after a car burst into flames in North Lanarkshire.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the area between junctions five and six near Newhouse after the fire was reported around 10.30am on Thursday.
Emergency services are on the scene.
Images from the scene showed a car engulfed in flames on the hard shoulder.
Traffic is being restricted due to smoke.
A Police Scotland statement read: “The M8 is closed eastbound near Newhouse, due to a vehicle fire which was reported around 10.30am on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
“Emergency services are in attendance and road users are asked to avoid the area.”
One lane has reopened after 11.30am, but with drivers reporting long delays.
Traffic Scotland said on X around 10.50am: “The M8 is closed eastbound due to a vehicle fire.
“Traffic is restricted westbound due to smoke. Road users should approach with caution and allow extra time for their journey.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
