Two men have been charged after a cannabis farm worth around £522,000 was seized by police in Motherwell.

Officers made the discovered while attending a property on Merry Street at around 6.30pm on Thursday.

Police said 874 plants with an estimated street value of £522,000 were recovered.

A 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were arrested and charged in connection.

They are expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, September 1.

Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding drugs in their area to come forward.

Detective inspector Scott Robertson said: “This significant recovery highlights our commitment to disrupting drug-related crime in our communities. It also reinforces our ongoing commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious and Organised Crime Strategy.

“Information from the public is vital is removing drugs from our communities. I would encourage anyone with concerns around drugs to contact Police Scotland on 101.
