A bus driver is accused of seriously injuring a pensioner by accelerating harshly before she was able to sit down.

Andrew Nimmo, 51, allegedly drove dangerously in Glasgow’s Springburn on April 6, 2022.

Court papers state Nimmo repeatedly drove at excessive speeds and caused his passengers to be jolted back in their seats.

It is claimed Nimmo, of Motherwell, also drove in an erratic manner.

The charge says Nimmo failed to negotiate bends and junctions in a safe manner.

Nimmo is further claimed to have accelerated harshly after a 76-year-old woman had boarded the bus.

The woman is stated not to have had a chance to sit down at the time when Nimmo caused her to fall to the floor to her serious injury.

Nimmo pled not guilty to the single charge at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A trial has been fixed for August this year.
