Brother pays tribute to 'glue of the family' murdered in Renfrewshire home as vigil held

The brother of a woman who was murdered in Renfrewshire described her as the “glue of the family” at a vigil held in her hometown.

Stacy Mair was found dead near Corsliehill Road in Houston on July 27, alongside the body of 43-year-old Jim Mair.

Police said the 35-year-old’s death was being treated as murder, while Jim Mair’s death was being treated as unexplained.

A vigil was held in Stacy’s memory in her hometown of Falkland in Fife on Wednesday evening.

The local community gathered beside the Falkland fountain to remember the beloved mum-of-three, who was described as a “happy person” who has devoted to her children.

Speaking to STV News, Stacy’s brother Sean Hunter said she “would do anything for her kids.”

The 34-year-old added: “As her brother, it was something I would always recognise and appreciate and be blown away by, the dedication.

“It sounds almost strange because most parents do that, but there was an extra level of dedication and thought by Stacy.

“I hope they [the children] can recognise everything she did for them and know that she loved them more than anything in the world and would’ve done anything for them.

“Stacy was a happy, interesting person, a good friend to have, a loyal friend to have, and just the glue of the family.”

Stacy worked as the director of a tree removal company, TRS Tree Management, alongside her husband before she resigned from the role in January.

Jim Mair had appeared from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court on July 6, charged with assaulting the 35-year-old.

The case was continued for further examination, and he was granted bail.

Stacy’s family say they want to raise awareness of the circumstances that led to her death in the future, but, for now, are focusing on showing her children how much she was loved.

Sean added: “We’d love to thank everyone who has given support. The community, the way it’s come together, the thoughts and the way everybody obviously loved my sister, especially for my mum, who has received massive amounts of support from the whole community, it’s been amazing to see.

“That’s what we want the kids to see as well – this is how your mum was thought of. This is how important community and family are.”

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with Stacy’s death.
