Police are investigating after bricks and fireworks were thrown at officers in an “extremely hostile” large-scale disorder incident after a crowd gathered at a house in West Dunbartonshire.
At around 8pm on Thursday, March 16, police were called to reports of a large crowd gathering outside a property in Braehead, Bonhill.
Local area commander, chief inspector Ryan McMurdo said:“Unfortunately during the incident, some of those gathered became extremely hostile towards police. Objects including bricks and fireworks were thrown at officers and public order trained officers were called to assist. The crowd later dispersed.”
Patrols in the area are being stepped up and anyone in the area with concerns is urged to speak to officers.
Chief inspector McMurdo continued: “We have a duty to ensure the safety of everyone involved and although no officers were injured, this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.
“This type of disorder causes fear and alarm to residents and I would like to reassure the local community that our investigation is continuing to trace those involved.
“We have stepped up patrols in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to officers. We are working to establish more details on the offences committed, identify those responsible and take the appropriate action. This will include reviewing any available video footage.”
Police are now appealing for information to identify those involved in the incident.
He added: “We urge anyone with information to contact officers through 101 quoting reference number 3328 of March 16. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
“Anyone with personal footage of the incident is asked to send it to the dedicated email address operationiridescent@scotland.police.uk ”
As a result of the policing plan put in place to address recent issues of large-scale disorder, a 19-year-old man and two 17-year-old male youths were arrested in connection with an incident that took place on Friday, March 17 around 7.50 pm in Strathleven Drive.
They were released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.
