'Scotland's Christmas advert': Boys spread festive cheer with doorstep rendition of Last Christmas

The video starts with five young boys rocking up the driveway of a house but takes an unexpected turn.

A group of Scottish primary school boys have become a Christmas sensation after doorbell camera footage of them singing Last Christmas went viral.

The lads, who are all ten or 11 years old, rock up the driveway of a house in Denny, triggering the motion detection and capturing a video that has been watched more than 1.4 million times.

“We’ve had issues with kids causing problems, damaging our property,” homeowner Erin Chalmers told STV News.

The mum-of-two was at work while her husband took their kids to football when she got a message from him saying she had to watch the latest footage caught by their Ring doorbell.

“When you see a group of kids coming up the drive, you expect the worst,” she said.

But instead of kicking the door or causing trouble, Jack Campbell, Dylan Thompson, Cameron Bourne, Liam Phillips, and Ollie Shearer belt out Wham’s number one hit with some local flair.

“This is to get you in the Christmas spirit,” Cameron says as they round off their rendition hitting the “special” high note.

Dylan shouts “love you” and the five boys head off on their way.

“I just didn’t expect it, we were just like, this is hilarious,” Ms Chalmers said.

“This is Scotland, this is us, this sums us up in one and it’s just brilliant. It’s the accents, the characters. You’re not going to get kids doing that anywhere else.”

Ms Chalmers posted the video on TikTok and within hours it had gone around the world, attracting thousands of comments.

“They’re saying ‘get Ring Doorbell’, or ‘they’re putting the John Lewis Christmas advert to shame’,” she said.

“Ring should 100% use it as a Christmas advert. They deserve a brand to reach out to them. It’s made everybody smile.

“Young people in Scotland, they get a bad name, wee neds, or thugs, but they’re not – look at this.”

The boys’ mums have been filled with pride. Jack’s mum Dianne described it as “heartwarming”.

Dylan’s mum Stephanie said he has “always been a performer” but didn’t know about it until he texted her saying: “Mum, I’m famous.”

Cameron’s mum Kerry said it was cute and hilarious and very unexpected.

“I didn’t know he could sing like that, I’m surprised they even know the song,” she told STV News.

Liam’s mum Collette said she was blown away.

“He’s as proud as punch that him and his pals did such a good thing together,” she said.

Ollie’s mum Hannah said: “He’s forever singing, we’ve always got the radio on in the car.”
