A boy has died after being pulled from the water at a park in South Lanarkshire. 

On Saturday, emergency services were called to Alexander Hamilton Memorial Park in Stonehouse at around 4.30pm following concern for a person in the water. 

The young boy was pulled from the water but was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police said formal identification of the boy has still to take place but the family of an 11-year-old have been made aware.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
