Boy, 14, arrested after firefighters tackle blaze at derelict building overnight

A schoolboy will be reported after emergency services were called to the fire at a derelict building on Wardie Road, in the city on Sunday.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a blaze at a derelict building in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to a fire on Wardie Road around 3.15pm on Sunday.

Six fire engines were sent to the scene, and crews worked through the night to make the area safe, leaving the area around 10.20am on Monday.

Multiple road closures were put in place while the fire was brought under control. No injuries were reported.

Officers said a 14-year-old boy will be reported to the relevant authorities.

A Police Scotland statement read: “A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a fire in Glasgow.

“Emergency services were called to a fire at a derelict building on Wardie Road, Glasgow, around 3.15pm on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. There are no reported injuries.

“All roads have now reopened.

“The boy will be reported to the relevant authorities.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3.12pm on Sunday, April 27, to reports of a fire affecting a derelict building on Wardie Road in Glasgow.

“At its height, Operations Control mobilised six appliances to the area. There are no reported casualties.”
