Police were called to the Whitletts Road area of Ayr after security staff were told that a youth had a weapon.

An 11-year-old boy has been reported after he allegedly attended a funfair in South Ayrshire with a knife.

Police were called to the Whitletts Road area of Ayr around 4pm on Sunday after security staff at the site were told a youth was in possession of a weapon.

Officers seized a weapon and an 11-year-old boy will be reported to the relevant authorities.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At 4pm on Sunday, March 23, 2024 we received a report of a male youth with a weapon in the Whitletts Road area of Ayr.

“Officers attended and an 11-year-old will be reported to the relevant authorities.”

A Horne’s Pleasure Fairs spokesperson added: “Our on site security team were given a tip off that a minor may have been in possession of a weapon. The Police were notified, and a weapon was apprehended on his person. The youth was subsequently arrested and dealt with by Police Scotland.

“Safety is always our number one priority and we urge any member of public with any concerns, no matter how small, to approach a member of our staff or security team on site.”
