A beach in Greenock was locked down by the bomb squad after a ‘suspected explosive’ was discovered.
Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team were called to a beach between Lunderston Bay and Inverkip after the alarm was raised by a member of the public at around 1pm on Sunday.
The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended the scene and erected a 100m cordon around suspected ordnance.
The item was removed for disposal.

A statement from the Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team read: “Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team were called out shortly after 1pm to reports of suspected ordnance found on the beach between Lunderston Bay and Inverkip.
“Once on scene an initial assessment was carried out and photos taken which were then passed to an explosive ordnance disposal team (EOD).
“While awaiting the EOD team, a 100m cordon was established around the item. We’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this time.
“The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended and removed the item for disposal.
“Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team would also like to extend their thanks to the member of the public who reported this. The member of the public did exactly the right thing by calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard.
“It is not uncommon for suspect items to be washed up along the coast especially following spells of bad weather. If you are venturing for a walk along the coast please take care, stay safe and if in doubt – get us out.”
