Residents of a Renfrewshire town were evacuated from their homes after reports of a suspicious package.
The bomb disposal unit rushed to Reid Avenue in Linwood around 9.30am after an unidentified item was reported at a house on the street.
Images showed the road taped off with a crowd of locals gathered, while several emergency service vehicles descended on the street.
Officers have now confirmed the item was assessed and poses no threat to the public.
A spokesperson said: “Around 9.30am on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, we were called to a report of a suspicious item at a property on Reid Avenue in Linwood.
“Officers and Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended, and the building and nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.
“The item was assessed and confirmed to pose no risk to the public.”
A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “We supported Police Scotland as they responded to an incident in Linwood, which has now been stood down.”
