A tower block has been evacuated and train line closed after police discovered a suspicious item in Clydebank.

People have been urged to avoid the area around Overtoun Court, off Dunswin Avenue, which is next to Dalmuir train station.

Services running through the station have been cancelled, delayed or revised, ScotRail said, and disruption is expected until 6pm.

“Due to the police dealing with an incident at Dalmuir all lines are closed,” a spokesperson for the train operator said.

Detectives were searching a property as part of an ongoing investigation when the item was found.

A Royal Navy explosive ordinance disposal team has been called in and a number of surrounding properties have been evacuated, Police Scotland said.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.18pm on Monday, October 28 to an incident at Overtoun Court, Clydebank.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance. There are no reported casualties and crews are still in attendance.”

It comes eleven days after a man was found dead in the Dunswin Avenue.

Police said the 58-year-old’s death was being treated as “unexplained”.

Police confirmed officers were searching a property on York Street in the town as part of “extensive enquiries” being carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It is not clear if the incidents are related.

Police Scotland has been asked for comment.
