A bomb squad has been mobilised and a stretch of the M8 closed following a report of a “suspicious package”.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident in Glasgow’s Milnbank Street at around 3.30pm on Thursday.
Police evacuated the premises and locked the area down, including a section of the nearby motorway.
Chief inspector Scott Simpson said: “We were called around 3.30pm on Thursday, January 27, to a report of a suspicious package found within a premises on Milnbank Street in Glasgow.
“Officers are in attendance and EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) have been contacted.
“The premises has been evacuated, a cordon has been put in place and the M8 has been closed between J14 and J15.”
In an update, Traffic Scotland advised that the M8 has been closed westbound from J12 Cumbernauld Road Interchange and eastbound from J15 Townhead Interchange.
Delays of between 30 and 90 minutes are expected, with drivers urged to avoid the area.
CI Simpson added: “The motorway is likely to be closed for a period of time, so road users are advised to use alternative routes where possible.”
