A body has been pulled from the River Clyde in the search for a pensioner missing from Lanark for six weeks.

Officers said the family of David Simpson had been made aware after a body was recovered from the river at Crossford, near Carluke, at around 12.10pm on Monday.

The 77-year-old was last seen in the St Leonard Street area of Lanark around 11.30am on September 8.

Formal identification is yet to take place, with the death being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

A Police Scotland statement: “Around 12.10pm on Monday, October 21, the body of a man was recovered from the River Clyde at Crossford in Lanarkshire.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious.

“Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of David Simpson, reported missing from Lanark on Sunday, September 8 has been informed.”
