The body of a missing kayaker has been found on the banks of Loch Fyne following an overnight search operation.
Police Scotland, RNLI crews and HM Coastguard were called to reports of a missing kayaker around 7.55pm on Sunday, September 1 and a large search operation was conducted.
The body of a 57-year-old man was found around 7.30am on Monday around two miles south of Lochgair in Argyll and Bute.
Police confirmed the man’s family have been notified and said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Rescue teams from Belfast Coastguard, a helicopter from Prestwick and RNLI Troon assisted the search which lasted over 11 and a half hours.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.55pm on Sunday, September 1, a search and rescue operation was launched following a report of a missing kayaker in the Loch Fyne area.
“The body of a 57-year-old man was found around 7.30am on Monday, September 2, on the banks of Loch Fyne around two miles South of Lochgair.
“His family are aware.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
A post by RNLI Troon on Facebook read: “During the course of the search, the body of the missing kayaker was located and recovered by the lifeboat crew to the all-weather lifeboat.
“Belfast Coastguard were notified and the lifeboat crew remained on scene providing assistance to Coastguard and Police Scotland personnel.
“The all-weather lifeboat then returned to station and was made ready for service at 4.30pm on Monday, September 2 – 19 hours after they launched.
“No further details are available in relation to this tasking. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.”
