The body of a man has been recovered from the water at a beauty spot in West Dunbartonshire following a rescue operation.

A joint operation between Police Scotland, the RNLI and HM Coastguard was launched at Rosneath Bay in Helensburgh around 9.30am on Friday following reports of someone in the water.

The body of a 52-year-old man was recovered. His next of kin have been informed.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A search and rescue operation was launched this morning, Friday, August 16, after police received a report of a man in the water off Rosneath Bay, near Helensburgh.

“The body of a 52-year-old man has been recovered and his family has been informed. Enquiries are ongoing, however, we are not treating the death as suspicious.

“Police were called around 9.30am.”
