Body of man found on cycle path as police probe 'unexplained' death

Police are investigating the 'unexplained' death of a 51-year-old man who was found on a cycle path at around 7.30am on Sunday.

A police investigation has been launched following the “unexplained” death of a man discovered on a Coatbridge cycle path.

Police were called to a report of an unresponsive man on the cycle path between Centre Park Drive and Coatbank Street at around 7.30am on Sunday, 11 January, 2026.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but the 51-year-old man was pronounced dead. Police say his family is aware and being supported by officers.

The death is being treated as unexplained and a probe has been launched into the circumstances, Police Scotland said.

Officers remain in the area as the investigation is carried out.

A statement read: “The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“Officers remain in the area and anyone with any concerns or information can approach them.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
