A body has been discovered in the search for an Ayrshire teenager who went missing nine months ago.

Jamie Cannon, from Saltcoats, vanished from his hometown on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Police confirmed that a body had been discovered in the Ardeer area of nearby Stevenston on Saturday afternoon.

Officers said they were working to establish the identity of the body but that Jamie’s family had been informed.

Jamie had last been seen on Kerr Avenue at 10.26am on May 20, before being spotted at 10.40am the same day at Auchenharvie Golf Course, Stevenston, just under a mile away.

After his disappearance, Jamie’s cousin Leeanne Graham said the college student, who was studying brick-laying, had never disappeared before.

A huge search effort supported by communities in North Ayrshire and stretching across the country failed to find Jamie.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.30pm on Saturday, February 26, 2022 we received a call that a body had been discovered in the Ardeer area of Stevenston.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances and identity. The family of missing man Jamie Cannon have been informed.”
