Blaze which ripped through six East Kilbride properties is ‘not suspicious’ SFRS

A fire which ripped through six properties in a block of flats on Friday evening is not being treated as suspicious.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it received reports of a “well-developed” fire in the Whitelee area of the South Lanarkshire town at around 4pm on Friday.

At the height of the blaze four fire appliances were rushed to the scene alongside a high-reach appliance.

There have been no reported casualties and the fire is not being treated as suspicious by police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.40pm on Friday, October 20, 2023, we were called to a report of a fire at a block of flats, Whitelee, East Kilbride.

“Emergency services attended and six properties were evacuated.

“There are no reported injuries.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and no further police involvement.”
