Batman director Matt Reeves delivers update after Glasgow transformed into GothamSTV News

The director of The Batman Part II, which was filmed in Glasgow earlier this year, has given an update on the movie’s release.

During the summer, Glasgow was once again transformed into the fictional Gotham City for The Batman: Part II.

In August, production crews dressed up Bothwell Street, Wellington Street and St Vincent Street with fake snow, hot dog stands and fictional storefronts such as Lacy’s and The Gotham Fork.

More than a dozen Gotham police cars, motorcycles and emergency unit vehicles lined the streets of Glasgow, alongside the Batmobile, which took centre stage during filming for a dramatic police chase scene.

In September, a stuntman playing the vigilante was spotted up close on a motorcycle flying over police cars under the Kingston Bridge.

There had been no sign of any major actors during filming, including Batman himself, Robert Pattinson.

Jeffrey Wright, who plays Commissioner James Gordon, teased that he might be in Glasgow on social media.

The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Andy Serkis and was slated for release in February 2028.

However, earlier this month, Deadline reported production was being paused on the film due to director Matt Reeves stepping away for “personal reasons”.

It was then reported this week that Ocean’s 11 director Steven Soderbergh was due to help finish production for the sequel to The Batman (2022).

On Thursday, Reeves took to social media, saying: “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography.

“Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.”
