Family and friends of a 12-year-old girl who died in a West Dunbartonshire river plan to celebrate her life with a balloon tribute.

Yellow and pink balloons will be released in memory of Ava Gray, from Alexandria, who got into difficulty in the River Leven last Sunday.

Emergency services were alerted and a major three-hour search took place for the Lennox Primary school pupil who was pronounced dead after being recovered from the water.

The aspiring dancer’s loved ones will gather at Dalmonach Park on Northfield Drive at 1pm on Saturday.

Two of Ava’s friends, Aiden and Ellie came up with the idea as a tribute to her and to celebrate her life.

Yellow and pink were picked for the balloons as they were her favourite colours.

Last week tributes were paid to the Lennox Primary School pupil who was described as a kind and popular child.

The school’s headteacher said: “The school and whole community are completely devastated by this tragedy and our thoughts are with Ava’s family and friends.

“Ava always had a smile and kind words to say and was popular with staff and fellow pupils. She will be greatly missed by us all.”
