A baby duck and its mum have died in a Marks and Spencer’s car park in Dumfries.

The retail giant said the mum of the group was struck by a car and passed away, and all her babies were left running around on Saturday morning.

Nine out of the ten babies were saved, but one was sadly found dead under another car.

M&S thanked its customers who helped to rescue the animals.

The store said on social media: “We would like to thank our lovely customers who helped this morning in our car park.

“Unfortunately, a mummy duck was struck by a car and passed away, and all her babies were left running around.

“We managed to save nine out of the ten and found the last one passed away under another car.

“Everyone who helped catch them or who refused to move their cars until they were safe.

“Also to the lovely gentleman Tariq who took the babies securely to the Bard vets where they will be looked after.

“Thank you once again.”
