The captain of a CalMac ferry has welcomed its “youngest-ever passenger”, after a baby was born on the vessel.

The baby girl was welcomed onboard the MV Argyle at around 8am on Wednesday.

It was just arriving at Wemyss Bay from a 7.15am departure from Rothesay when the birth happened.

Captain Lee McDowell, who was the master on board at the time, said: “We are delighted at the news of a very special delivery on board MV Argyle in Wemyss Bay this morning – a baby girl.

“Our warmest wishes and congratulations to the parents, and to our youngest-ever passenger.”

CalMac staff also posted about the good news on the ferry service’s social media, wishing the newborn and her family congratulations.
