Baby and two toddlers released from hospital after trailer crashed into pram in DumfriesITV

A baby and two toddlers who were being treated for serious injuries after a detached trailer struck a pram in Dumfries have been released from hospital.

Emergency services attended the scene of the crash on Pleasance Avenue around 3.15pm on Monday, October 13.

The trailer is believed to have become detached from a Mitsubishi Outlander car before striking the pram, which was being pushed on the pavement by an 18-year-old woman.

An eight-month-old baby, a 14-month-old toddler and an 18-month-old toddler were all taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, before later being transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.

Their injuries were described as serious.

It is understood the three have since been discharged from hospital, with enquiries into the incident ongoing.

The 18-year-old woman, who was pushing the pram, was also taken to hospital for treatment and released.

STV News understands the woman is a staff member at nearby Gracie Drew Nursery.

The nursery said earlier this month it was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the incident involving three of its children.

Sergeant David Kerr, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who have witnessed it to come forward.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1870 of October 13.”
